The June 2012 Top Five List of Amusing Search Engine Terms (that found Biologyze)

So, here is a list of five notable search engine terms that lead visitors to Biologyze this month.

#5: “gene pig”
Is this like a piggy bank where you store excess genes?

#4: “why a popping sound inside my all american autoclave?”
If you’re not making something like popcorn (which you shouldn’t be), I’d suggest you call someone to fix that all-American autoclave right away – something’s wrong.

#3: “abandoned laboratory photos”
Perhaps you’d expect tumble weeds to blow through an abandoned lab, but in reality there’s just lots of stuff left behind, both useful and useless. If abandoned long enough, it can become a time capsule. And for those cleaning out the abandoned lab, you can find some interesting things, like:

  • a formalin-fixed octopus named Cornelius who has been repurpose as our lab mascot,
  • personal appliances like a hair dryer or an electric shaver, or
  • surveyor’s click wheel (used to measure out linear distances).

#2:  “think of an animal that is small”
Oh, I know this game! It’s like think-of-a-number-from-one-to-ten but with animals, right?

#1:  “glamorous lab”
okay, while I’ve said life in the research lab can be “glamorous” at times, I was being a little sarcastic. I don’t think I’ve ever gone in a lab and said, “My! What a glamorous lab you have.” There are state-of-the-art, jaw-dropping cool labs, but glamorous?
